Workshop: American Cultural Complexes & the Splintered American Psyche

October 10 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm PDT

Hybrid Event

workshop:

In this interactive workshop, Dr. Singer will delve more deeply into the autonomous nature of cultural complexes and how they can trigger, possess, distort, and clash like mythic titans within the group and individual psyche, vying for the soul of the individual and the soul of the nation.

Using material and images from his book, A Field Guide to American Cultural Complexes: The Battleground of the Splintered American Psyche, we will explore several American cultural complexes, including the MAGA Cultural Complex, the Military-Industrial Cultural Complex, the American Consumerism Cultural Complex, the American Narcissism Cultural Complex, and the Melting Pot Cultural Complex.

The workshop will focus on how these complexes live within both the individual and group psyche, with ample discussion of what we can do about them and how they change—or fail to change—over time. One of the greatest challenges we face is how to remain a real person and avoid being absorbed into a cultural complex as our primary identity.
