This title comprises two principal works with different publication histories:
• The material that would eventually become "The Unconscious in the
Normal and Pathological Mind" first appeared in the Rascher Yearbook
for 1912 under the title "Neue Bahnen der Psychologie," revised and
published as "Die psychologie der unbewusste Prozesse (1917) and
translated by Dora Hecht for publication in "Collected Papers on
Analytical Psychology (2nd ed., 1917). It would eventually undergo
further, substantial revisions before being published as "On the
Psychology of the Unconscious" in Volume 7 of Jung's Collected
Works.
• The material that would eventually become "The Relation Between
the Ego and the Unconscious" was first presented to the Zurich
School for Analytical Psychology as a lecture in 1916 and published
the same year as a translation by M. Marsen in the "Archives de
Psychologie" under the title "La Structure de I'inconscient,"
subsequently translated into English and published in the
"Collected Papers on Analytical Psychology" (2nd ed., 1917).
It would eventually undergo further, substantial revisions
before being published as "The Relations Between the Ego
and the Unconscious" in Volume 7 of Jung's Collected Works.
Additional information on the publication history of these papers
is provided in the translator's and author's prefaces -- and also
in the Catalog entries for Vol. 7 of Jung's Collected Works.
