User Notes:
This is CD 2 of 2, total run time 44'29", of a paper presented by Marie-Louise von Franz, PhD at the 1978 Panarion Conference at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. Dr. Von Franz carefully arrays the evidence for us, including dreams of people who were soon to die, as well as extensive amplifications from Egyptian mythology and from Alchemy to support her impression that the unconscious focuses on death for its role in the individuation process. The final twenty minutes presents implications about the psyche-matter interpenetration that are drawn from dreams, including her own, and the phenomenon of the black hole used as a simile.
The paper was subsequently published in Quadrant: Journal of the C.G. Jung Foundation for Analytical Psychology, Vol. 12, Number 1 (Summer 1979). This journal is available at the OFJ library and may be read by arrangement with the librarian. The material was expanded in Dr. von Franz's book On Dreams and Death, also in the OFJ Library.
