The Gnostic Jung and the seven sermons to the dead

Paperbound; xxviii + 239 pp., including an appendix, a glossary, bibliographic references in endnotes, a bibliography, and an index. This material was first published in 1916 by Jung under the title "Septem Sermones ad Mortuos" in a privately printed and circulated edition, distributed solely by Jung as gifts. This remained the case until the publication of the Revised Edition of "Memories Dreams Reflections" (©1965?), in which "The Seven Sermons to the Dead" was included as an appendix. The same material (or nearly the same) appears in the concluding section ("Scrutinies") of Jung's "Liber Novus" ["Red Book"], published in 2009 (pp. 346-354). The version of "Septem Sermones ad Mortuos" that appears in the "Red Book" was taken from entries dated January 31 through February 8, 1916, in Volume 6 of Jung's "Black Books." The first English translation of "Septem Sermones ad Mortuos" by Cary Baynes (1925) was published in "Memories Dreams Reflections" (Revised Edition). The translation that is published in "The Gnostic Jung" is by the author, Stephan A. Hoeller, made from a transcription of a privately circulated copy that came to him in 1949. "Septem Sermones ad Mortuos" is not included in Jung's Collected Works. Copies of both the "Red Book" and the "Black Books" are among the Library's holdings.
