User Notes:
This is a Reference book for use only in the Library.
Hardbound; x + 588 pp., including one black-and-white illustration,
bibliographic references in footnotes, an appendix, a bibliography,
and an index.
The first edition of CW 8 was published in 1960; the second edition
was published in 1969. The second printing (1972), third printing (1975),
and fourth printing (1978) of the second edition were each published
"with corrections," as indicated in the publication data printed on the
verso of the title page. The corrected, fourth printing (1978) of the
second edition is thus presumed to be the terminal version of CW 8.
The digital edition of Jung's Collected Works (also among the
Library's holdings) includes the corrected, third, 1975 printing of
the second edition of CW 8 -- not the corrected fourth printing.
Vol. 8 of the Collected Works was the ninth to be published.
Publication histories of the 18 principal papers and the one
appended item that are included in CW 8 are provided in the
table of contents, footnotes to the text, editorial notes, and
the translator's note.
Two of the essays in CW 16 were previously published in
English in the book "Modern Man in Search of a Soul"
(translated by W.S. Dell and Carey F. Baynes; Kegan Paul,
Trench, Trubner & Co. Ltd., London, 1933), copies of which
are among the Library's holdings:
• Basic postulates of analytical psychology
(under the title "The basic postulates of analytical
psychology," with "slight revision" in CW 8)
• The stages of life
