SUMMARY:Care of the Soul
DESCRIPTION:The great malady of the twentieth century is loss of soul. When soul is neglected\, it doesn’t just go away; it appears symptomatically in obsessions\, addictions\, violence\, and loss of meaning. Our temptation is to isolate these symptoms or to try to eradicate them one by one; but the root problem is that we have lost our wisdom about soul\, even our interest in it. \nCare of the soul is not solving the puzzle of life; quite the opposite\, it is an appreciation of the paradoxical mysteries that blend light and darkness into the grandeur of what human life and culture can be. Dr. Moore’s lecture will focus on concrete ways of fostering soulfulness in our ordinary everyday lives and in our relationships.

SUMMARY:A 3-Day Workshop: Going on a Quest: Opening to the Creative Day 3
DESCRIPTION:There is a center in us which\, if we could but open to it\, would give us strength\, wisdom\, and the capacity to live our creative potential. Connection with this center gives our lives presence and vitality. Creativity depends on it. Like most real truths\, this potential is hidden: the “treasure hard to attain”. There are tools for contacting and remaining open to it. \nThis workshop uses the creative arts and body movements as an opener to the depths of the psyche\, to what Jung calls “the Self”. It is an opportunity to play with color and shape. No previous knowledge or art skills are necessary-only a longing for a deeper understanding\, a joy in color and a wish to play again. \nParticipants should write their own stories-as if your life were a personal myth or fairy tale-and bring them to the workshop. What are you in search of? Where are you on your pilgrimage? Where do you think you will be at the end? Please also reflect on your favorite fairy tale as a child and your current favorite. This material will be enhanced by the revelations that will arise during the weekend. Bodywork will be coordinated with collage work. Collage materials will be provided.

SUMMARY:Antigone and Elektra: The Missing Father and Suffering Daughter
DESCRIPTION:This lecture will draw on the Greek legends of Antigone and Elektra to explore the subject of father-daughter relationships and their importance in a woman’s development. SUMMARY:Film Seminar Weekend: The Way of the Dream - Day 2
DESCRIPTION:This unique program presents “The Way of the Dream”\, a series of 20 half-hour films\, within the framework of a two-day film seminar. It combines dream interpretations on film by Marie-Louise von Franz\, the world’s foremost authority on analytical psychology\, with audience discussions led by facilitators. \nFollowing the format of the film series\, the seminar first introduces participants to the basic psychology of C.G. Jung\, explains Jung’s concept of dream interpretation and examines the historical significance of dreams in our culture. It then moves on to an extensive analysis of the dreams of men and of women. In the concluding sessions\, Dr. von Franz addresses the problems of human relationships in our changing world and explores the puzzling question\, “Who makes up our dreams?”

SUMMARY:Portland Jungians Performance Through Art\, Poetry\, Dance\, Mime and Music: Playing in the Dark: The Shadows in Our Lives
DESCRIPTION:This revue-style event features the talents of Jungians in the Portland area expressing some of their experiences of the Shadow through art\, poetry\, drama\, dance\, mime\, and music. Moving in circles through the humorous to the tragic\, we pay artistic tribute to one of Jung’s most significant assertions-that the Shadow\, which embodies the entire range of archetypes\, is a daily part of our lives. Unrecognized\, it is the source of our misery and destructiveness. Acknowledged\, it becomes our daemon\, guiding us to new creativity and understanding as we grapple with the richness and frustration of our inherently contradictory natures.

SUMMARY:Film: The Way of the Dream
DESCRIPTION:West Coast Premiere of a series of 20 half-hour films\, presented in cooperation with the C.G. Jung Society of Seattle and the Centerpoint Foundation. \nThe Way of the Dream is an extraordinary series of films made by Fraser Boa\, who collected first-person accounts of dreams in street interviews with ordinary men and women in various parts of the world. He then asked the eminent psychoanalyst Marie-Louise von Franz to interpret these dreams on film\, just as she would in a private analytical session. The resulting series is a primer explaining and demonstrating the art and science of dream analysis for the general public.

The material covered includes dreams of men\, dreams of women\, what dreams tell us about ourselves and our relationships\, the historical significance of dreams\, and dreams about death and dying. Dr. von Franz concludes that one of the healthiest things people can do is to pay attention to their dreams: “Dreams show us how to find meaning in our lives\, how to fulfill our own destiny\, how to realize the greater potential of life within us.”

SUMMARY:The Inner Journey: Guided Imagery and Music
DESCRIPTION:Music can reach into the very core of ourselves and resonate with it. It facilitates the freeing of the imagination\, the phenomenon of the inner world. In coming to experience this inner world\, we obtain access to our visions and inspirations. Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) is a transformative process which involves listening to classical music in a relaxed state to facilitate self-understanding\, healing and growth\, recall forgotten memories\, provoke adventures\, stimulate creativity\, and often provide spiritual insight. Come prepared to explore the mysteries of your internal image world as evoked by music. Bring a box of oil pastels and a blanket or sleeping bag to lie on.

SUMMARY:In Honor of Naming
DESCRIPTION:There is a Navaho saying\, “to name something is to become”. It speaks of a longing and the possibility for each of us to be fully who we are. It speaks of a relationship to creation and to creator. It speaks of the need to be remembered in a very deep and mysterious way. \nTogether we will explore naming though dialoguing with a variety of texts\, journaling\, use of myth and fairy tale\, movement and ritual.
