DESCRIPTION:This Event is Sold Out\nA Spring Seminar with PNSJA Analysts \nWe will examine the stages of Jung’s Individuation Process through the archetypes of Persona\, Shadow\, Anima/Animus\, and Self. We will explore what Jung meant by these terms and how they appear in dreams and in life. Jung had an innate understanding that the body was not separate from psyche\, but he did not find a way to embody the Individuation Process. We will take a look at an emerging understanding of the body and its integration in the process towards wholeness. We will discuss the maturity and character traits that one needs in order to determine the depth and breadth of one’s individuation process. Skillfully engaging the symbols that beckon to us just beyond the grasp of everyday consciousness can be essential for developing depth\, meaning\, and direction in our lives. Almost anything can be symbolic. DESCRIPTION:In May of 1995\, Oregon Friends of C. G. Jung\, in collaboration with the R.H. Ives Gammell Studios Trust and Maryhill Museum\, presented a special side lecture in Portland\, The Poem and the Painter: A Psychological Journey. The following day\, participants traveled to Maryhill Museum for a tour/lecture of the exhibit The Hound of Heaven: The Vision of R.H. Gammell. Central to the tour was a discussion of the influence of C.G. Jung upon Gammell’s work. \nPresently\, a larger exhibit\, Transcending Vision: R.H. Ives Gammell\, continues at Maryhill until November 15\, 2001. \nA special lecture: R.H. Ives Gammell and Carl Jung\, is given at 2pm\, October 6\, 2001. The presenters are Elizabeth Ives Hunter\, god-daughter of R.H. Ives Gammell\, and Brigid Boardman\, Ph.D.\, English scholar and author of two books about Francis Thompson\, who wrote The Hound of Heaven.

SUMMARY:Special Film Seminar Weekend: "The Way of the Dream"
DESCRIPTION:This unique documentary\, produced and directed by Fraser Boa\, is a series of 20 half-hour films on the dreams of ordinary people. \nIncluded in this series is a montage of people around the world responding to three questions: Do you dream? Do you think your dreams are important? Can you recall a dream? The film crew traveled over 25\,000 miles\, to Canada\, England\, France\, Switzerland and the United States\, for these spontaneous reactions. \nThe basic structure of the series is a more formal telling of personal dreams by a smaller group of men and women followed with interpretations of these dreams by Dr. von Franz. Certain motifs and archetypes are illustrated in these dreams and include : The male shadow; the negative and positive anima; patterns in dreams; the female shadow; negative and positive animus; dreams of our culture; dreams of relationships; dreams of The Self. Some of segment titles are: The Devouring Mother\, The Inner Bride\, The Hanged Man\, and Hell Has No Mirrors. \nOur The Way of the Dream weekend will include discussions led by local Jungian analysts. Though the film is segmented\, it is continuous thematically and the two-day attendance is encouraged. This is the first showing of Boa’s film in Oregon in over ten years\, a rare opportunity for our community.

DESCRIPTION:A drama-documentary film made by Stephen Segaller\, creator/producer of The Wisdom of the Dream. Gnostics was winner of the Gold Medal for religious programs at the 31st New York International Film and Television Festival\, 1988.\nDr. Stephen A. Hoeller will offer an independent point of view. He will introduce the series\, provide commentary\, and moderate discussion.  \nGnostics is a film in four parts.  \nThe knowledge of the heart which the gnostics sought went beyond dogma and faith to individual experience of spiritual realities. Long suppressed\, the Gnostic pulse continued to beat until our era\, when Carl Jung recognized the vital importance of its orientation and conclusions for the Self\, for the feminine side of God\, for the problem of evil and for the place of human beings in the cosmos.  \nPart One documents the new light that has been cast on the early Gnostics following the 1945 discovery\, by an Egyptian peasant\, of the 2000 year old Nag Hammadi manuscripts.  \nAuthor/scholar/filmmaker Stephan Segaller then focuses on the Cathars of twelfth-century southern France\, who cast aside Church authority for a time and sought Gnosis in another form.  \nIn the third film\, Segaller shows hermetic philosophy\, alchemy\, magic\, and the Gnostic attitude coming to synthesis in Renaissance Italy at the time of the Medicis\, and the later impact of the myserious magician John Dee\, who may have inspred Shakespeare’s Prospero. Segaller also touches upon the modern-day use of hermetic principles.  \nThe last film deals with the Gnostic attitude towards tragedy\, the appeal of Gnosticism to Jung and contemporary practitioners of Gnosticism.  \nFeatured scholars\, therapists and actors include Nigel Harrison\, Elaine Pagels\, James Robinson\, Gilles Quispel\, Brian Blessed\, C.A. Meier\, Hans Jonas\, Aniela Jaffe\, June Singer\, and Carl Jung.
