SUMMARY:In‑Between Times:Something Gone\, Something Not Yet
DESCRIPTION:  \nWandering between two worlds\, one dead\,\nThe other powerless to be born… \n-Matthew Arnold\, 1885 \nAs individuals\, we often find ourselves in in-between times\, somewhere between a world we knew\, and a world that has not yet emerged.  These times are hours of crisis\, disorientation\, loss\, and enormous anxiety.   Similarly cultures\, eras\, civilizations go through in-between times.   Ours is such a moment in history.    How can we recover our bearings\, sustain dignity and integrity when things fall apart?   What abides amid such discontinuity?   Together we will reflect on what we may do to recover a sense of personal autonomy when our roadmap whirls from our grasp and leaves us confounded.

SUMMARY:Active Imagination and the Romantic Poets
DESCRIPTION:Through the contemplation of his inward nature\, the art of writing poetry became\, for Wordsworth as for many of the Romantics\, a “dark” and “inscrutable workmanship”\, in which the “discordant elements” operative between the “two consciousness” within himself might “cling together / In one society” and realize “a soul in the process of making itself.” Wordsworth’s experience of poetic composition will be familiar to those in the field of Jungian psychology as active imagination. When Wordsworth imagines his poetry as “spousal verse” announcing a marriage of the human mind “to this goodly universe / In love and holy passion” (Prospectus to the Recluse\, 53-5)\, Romantic active imagination aims at healing the split between psyche and nature. \nFor those interested in a unified vision of mind and nature\, the psychology of creativity\, and the emergence of a new image of God beyond both fundamentalism and materialistic atheism\, there is much to be learned from the Romantic poets and philosophers. This lecture will explore the practice of active imagination in Romantic poetry and Jungian psychology\, and apply insights gleaned from both to contemporary debates on the nature of religion\, politics\, physics\, and neuroscience.

SUMMARY:Finding the Untold Story: Exploring Developmental Trauma Through the Lens of Contemporary Film
DESCRIPTION:According to C. G. Jung\, patients who come to us for healing often have… \n….a story that is not told\, and which as a rule no one knows of.  To my mind\, therapy only really begins after the investigation of that wholly personal story.  It is the patient’s secret\, the rock against which he is shattered.  If I know his secret story\, I have a key to the treatment…but how to gain that knowledge?  In most cases exploration of the conscious material is insufficient.  Sometimes [projective techniques] can open the way\, so can the interpretation of dreams\, or long and patient human contact with the individual (Jung\, 1963:117). \nAnother avenue through which we can “open the way” to our untold stories is through film. Not only do contemporary films give a vivid portrait of the shattering caused by trauma\, but they also point the way towards healing\, and in this way\, set the stage for enhanced personal and clinical understanding.  We might even say that films are themselves part of the solution to the problem of trauma in our time\, aiding in the creation of moving and meaningful stories out of the shattering experiences that otherwise leave us fragmented and lost. \nFriday Evening Film and Discussion:  As It Is In Heaven\, a Swedish film by Kay Pollak\, 2005. \nEarly developmental trauma always involves an injury to the capacity to feel.  And when this happens\, the window to life closes. Overwhelmingly painful feelings that were part of the trauma are dissociated and become part of the untold story that must finally be opened and the original pain re-experienced.   As It Is In Heaven is a moving film about the traumatic closing—and then re-opening–of the protagonists (Daniel’s) capacity to feel.  Through his conscious suffering\, a window to life re-opens.  We will see the film together and discuss its implications for the understanding and healing of trauma.

SUMMARY:Honoring Early Hermes: Shamanic Herdsman\, God of Paths and Open Boundaries
DESCRIPTION:We are living in a time of heightened border awareness as our old securities of containment and simple divisions of collective tribe and individual ego are forced open by new challenges. Walls don’t work well in the world of internet and drones\, nuclear\, biological\, and informational contaminations\, offshore banking\, and moving populations of refugees. \nIn this fluid\, open and expanding world\, simple divisions don’t work well even in psychology. Beyond the tidy\, binary separation into conscious and unconscious factors\, we have become attuned to the rich plurality of complexes or ‘self-states’ operative in every interchange between people. We are also becoming accustomed to working with the reality of open and interpenetrating borders between our various complexes and their field effects on the neurology and coherence of others in our immediate and global environment. \nSo we are increasingly aware of the impossibility of neat borders and must attend to the multiple effects of subtle neurological pulsations\, of mirror neurons\, hemispheric attunements\, bodily sensations\, emotional flavors and field dynamics that are alive across the threshold between us as we sit in the multi-dimensional flow that is rich but also often fearful. Such open consciousness forces us to levels of complexity and integration that psychologists began to explore more than a century ago. Jung beautifully understood then the values of seeking images for orientation. \nIn our current globalizing crisis\, which stirs anxiety\, I have been gripped by an image that comes from an era where similarly vast\, cultural shifts were underway and managed by figures representing the qualities needed to survive. For me the ancient\, shamanic herdsman\, Hermes\, god of paths and open boundaries\, has become a marker from which to expand towards such complexity. His early stories\, more emotional and cosmic than the ones from Hellenic Greece or medieval alchemy\, shape a presence that can orient consciousness in a world with wide open borders. They also connect to tales of boundary-making from Neolithic\, Northern Europe\, when the Goddess of the vast earth and sky was divided into tribal lands\, and shamanic elders sang the moving clans back to themselves. \nIn the Friday evening talk\, I will present Hermes as an early herdsman and shamanic deity\, showing pictures and telling stories of his origins and qualities\, which are important for our own time. He represents the threshold where energies and forms interweave\, where consciousness rises from and opens back into the fluid matrix of psyche to bring perception of multifaceted order\, creativity\, and healing.

SUMMARY:Connecting with Culture through Psychological Types
DESCRIPTION:C.G. Jung’s theory of psychological type offers us tremendous insight\, yet people who are identical in type may still approach the world with very different attitudes and assumptions. How we make sense of the world involves emotional investments and intellectual frameworks that tie to\, but also go beyond\, type. \nJoseph Henderson\, a co-author\, with Jung\, of Man and His Symbols\, worked on this problem in his book\, Cultural Attitudes in Psychological Perspective. Henderson observed that different people apply different cultural values as they engage with the world around them. He called these the social attitude\, the religious attitude\, the philosophical attitude\, the aesthetic attitude\, and\, a relative latecomer\, the psychological attitude. \nUsing illustrative clips from recent and classic films\, John Beebe will lead us in exploring these orientations toward what is offered already by our culture. Participants will take away a new way of observing and understanding themselves and others.

SUMMARY:Sex: The Flesh and Blood of It
DESCRIPTION:  \nThere is a close association between the sexual instinct and the striving for wholeness. With the exception of religious longing nothing challenges modern man more consciously and personally than sex. \n– C.G. Jung\, CW10\, par. 653 \nJung repeatedly emphasized the role that sexuality plays in the individuation process\, claiming that a disturbed sexuality was at the core of many complexes that hindered a person’s ability to individuate or develop. He also recognized the difficulties of addressing sexual phenomena because it often brings with it forbidding moral dictates and shadow material that can challenge one’s beliefs and ideas about oneself. But avoiding issues of sexuality means that we may be missing the opportunity of inviting and deepening the vital energy it brings for us at any age. \nIn the Jungian community we typically move to interpret the symbolic value of sex and to embrace the spiritual meaning of this instinctual experience. The spiritual aspect is of course an invaluable component\, and yes\, we want to go there. But we may miss or lose the soul’s longing\, pleasure and suffering if we cannot first explore the intensely fulfilling bodily sensations\, passions\, behavior and emotional communications contained in its ageless expression – in our objective reality\, in fantasies and our dreams. \nThis presentation will attempt to open a discussion about the instinctual aspects of sex\, to examine personal and collective attitudes toward sex\, to invite a deeper reflection of everyone’s personal biases and experiences with sex and to increase an understanding of the potential role sexual phenomena plays in individuation. The aim of the presentation and workshop is to address the positive\, pleasurable\, life-giving expressions of sex and not its negative\, destructive\, or abusive experiences.

SUMMARY:Living in the Fire: The Wisdom of Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be human in a chaotic world? How are we to cope? There are times\, personally and collectively\, in which we fall back into chaotic states: of anger\, fear\, confusion\, ignorance\, meaninglessness. In moments of chaotic breakdown familiar and cherished positions become unraveled. This lecture explores mythic and psychological patterns to help guide us through uncertain times.

SUMMARY:Exploring Our Jungian Racial Shadow: Brightening the Light
DESCRIPTION:The Eurocentric roots of Jungian Psychology have strengthened in American soil but have remained exclusive in areas of growth. The racialized language pertaining to people of color considered as “Other” has cast a Shadow that continues to affect how we live together psychologically while practicing a Psychology birthed and languaged in homogeneity. This lecture focuses on the historical development of Jungian Psychology and racial othering and supports us being in conversation about racial issues specific to Jungian Psychology while members of a heterogeneous Collective.

SUMMARY:The Alchemical Hunt for the Green Lion
DESCRIPTION:Following the tracks of this alchemical mystery of the Green Lion through myths\, ancient texts\, poetry\, and dreams\, we’ll seek that Presence in the psyche which leads into the growth of the subtle body heart. The alchemical Green Lion mysteries start in the “rag and bone shop of the heart” where our awareness grows of the subtle ways we learn to guard the heart and live out of unconscious values and archaic defenses against psyche and life. Our “hunt for the Green Lion” brings us into contact with this green vitalizing force where we may discover our capacity to see these shadow attitudes\, and simultaneously open the heart. Here in the subtle hermetic light between the opposites\, we may uncover a potential growing center between the conscious and the unconscious that helps light and guide our way in life.

SUMMARY:Letting Go and Holding On: Essential Archetypal Tools for the Journey of Individuation
DESCRIPTION:Jung suggested that in the journey of individuation the ego needs to let go of control and defer to the Self\, submitting to a principle greater than personal identity. Relinquishing old stories of a heroic ego is essential to the individuation process. Yet holding closely the values that bring us joy\, strength and meaning are also essential as we enter new stages of life. This talk will explore the essential role that these deeply embedded tools play in individuation\, from the viewpoint of human development\, Jung’s own life\, scientific research\, and mythology and religion.

SUMMARY:Living Life More Fully in the Shadow of Mortality
DESCRIPTION:Jung observed that “life is a short pause between two mysteries.” That fact is not in  debate; what does matter\, then\, is how we live that short pause. Given that mortality frames our brief journey\, how can we live more fully in its presence without being defined by morbidity\, fear\, and denial? What are the attitudes and practices which enable us to live more fully? And what psychological maturation brings us to experience this short pause as rich with meaning?

SUMMARY:Alchemy and Jung’s Red Book
DESCRIPTION:All of Jungian psychology as we know it – the story of how Jung became Jung – originates in the Red Book. The Red Book is the story of Jung’s confrontation with the unconscious undertaken over the course of 16 years from 1914 – 1930 and expressed in 400 calligraphic pages of writings and 53 full page color paintings. Central to Jung’s reflections in 1912-13 before he began the Red Book\, was one main question that became the question of all questions: “What is the myth of my life?” To his great surprise Jung discovered that his myth\, the myth of the Red Book\, was the alchemical myth. \n“I had very soon seen that analytical psychology coincided in a most curious way with alchemy. The experiences of the alchemists were\, in a sense\, my experiences\, and their world was my world. This was\, of course\, a momentous discovery.” \nMany alchemists were not literally trying to turn lead into gold\, but were speaking in a language of symbols about the imagination of transformation. This the reason why Jung observed in alchemical texts the same symbols that he experienced in himself and saw in the dreams of his patients. Three of the main themes in alchemy involve the confrontation with the shadow\, the return of the repressed feminine\, and the relationship between psyche and matter. Connecting these themes is the alchemical mysterium coniunctionis or the union of sun and moon\, of the conscious day world with the unconscious night world. In this presentation we will track the original texts and imagery of the alchemists into their reappearance in Jung’s Red Book and\, finally\, reflect on the meaning and value of the alchemical myth for our lives today in the contemporary world. \nView the slides and videos from this event

SUMMARY:Panther’s Prints: Tracking the Transcendent Function Through Imagery
DESCRIPTION:Panther ©2013 by Jane Zich\nSomething works behind the veil of fantastic images\, whether we give this something a good name or a bad.  It is something real\, and for this reason its manifestations must be taken seriously.  -C.G. Jung \nIn her lecture\, Jane Zich will explore impressions of the transcendent function based on her Vision Journey painting series.  This image-mediated dialogue with the unconscious\, which has spanned twelve years\, was initiated by the arrival of a numinous blue Panther. Panther’s presence not only opened the possibility of an “I-Thou” relationship with imagery\, but also became a symbol of the transcendent function.  Paintings from the Vision Journey series\, and experiences during that painting process\, will be examined as Panther’s metaphorical footprints. We will explore these “tracks” to see what they seem to reveal to us about the transcendent function\, about its course and patterns of movement\, and about the circumstances or psychological terrains in which the transcendent function is apt to become most apparent to us. Applications to clinical contexts will be discussed. \nImage: Panther © 2013 by Jane Zich

DESCRIPTION:Dyane Sherwood will speak about the symbolic and experiential way that the Lakota (“Sioux”) tribe’s ancient spiritual tradition situates the individual within the natural world and within community. We will look at fundamental symbols and rituals\, as well as a story that teaches the value of feminine wisdom. This will be related to the alienation and suffering expressed by many people seeking psychotherapy today\, who have lost their orientation and sense of belonging in the natural world and within a community with shared values. The lecture will be followed by a ritual of drumming as a form of active imagination\, as practiced by the late Donald Sandner. Wear comfortable clothing and bring drums and rattles so we can celebrate together at the end.

SUMMARY:The Archetype of the Foreigner - Feared or Embraced?
DESCRIPTION:The immigration crisis points to burning humanitarian issues. Foreigners\, walls\, outsiders and disturbing changes are accompanying the powerful emergence of the archetype of the Foreigner in our nation\, as well as globally. How are we to understand the constellation of the foreigner in our midst? To paraphrase C.G. Jung: what we don’t make conscious we will inevitably and tragically meet outside as fate. How does this apply now? \nWe will explore the archetype of the Foreigner on the objective as well as the subjective levels. When do we roll out the welcome mat and when do we bar the doors\, culturally as well as inner-psychically? A wide selection of images will guide us in our exploration of the topic.

SUMMARY:Healing Trauma: The Lost and Recovered Soul in Depth Psychotherapy
DESCRIPTION:According to C. G. Jung\, the human personality embodies a divine ”spark” or animating essence\, often described as the human soul or spirit. Under normal circumstances\, this core of selfhood incarnates in the individual and evolves into a unique personality through a process of tolerable suffering that Jung called individuation. \nHowever when severe trauma strikes the developing psyche of a child\, this sacred core of the person cannot embody and is split off from the developing personality\, retreating into “God’s world\,” i.e.\, into a deep layer of the unconscious for safe keeping. There it continues to exist as a lost soul in suspended animation under a spell cast by the powers of the psyche’s survival system. \nWith the self thus divided\, the trauma survivor feels “broken” or “unreal” and may even lose sight of the lost parts of the self\, living a joyless\, one-dimensional outer existence concerned more with survival than with true-self living. Clinical depression is often the result. \nIn this weekend’s lecture and workshop\, we will see how Depth Psychotherapy offers the opportunity for renewed contact with the lost core of the self\, and hence for renewed feeling-life\, creativity\, and relatedness. We will also see how the forces of repression resist this healing and are ready to wage a fierce battle for possession of the soul (as seen in Blake's image of the Good and Evil Angels fighting for possession of a child). How this dramatic struggle between life-and anti-life forces comes out in the end often depends on the strength of connection between the analytic partners and whether their relationship can weather the many storms and stresses that threaten to de-rail the therapy venture or end it prematurely. \nIn this slide-illustrated lecture\, Dr. Kalsched will describe a series of dramatic moments in the psychotherapy of trauma survivors where a breakthrough occurred in the client’s access to dissociated feelings. These moments were accompanied by vivid dreams in which a lost or abandoned “child” appeared– often menaced by the psyche’s repressive powers. The speaker will then show the parallels between these dreams and those ancient myths that describe the birth and trials of the archetypal Hero– the one who always carries a dual destiny– part human\, part divine\, and whose ”purpose” is to renew the community.

SUMMARY:The Gods at Play: Archetypal Powers and Patterns in the Arts
DESCRIPTION:As ancient poets and modern depth psychologists have long recognized\, the arts represent an especially vivid expression of the archetypes that inform and inspire the human psyche. The aim of this weekend’s program is to provide a rewarding interplay of instruction and entertainment\, each enhancing and illuminating the other. \nThe capacity to discern archetypes – the cultivation of what James Hillman called an “archetypal eye” – requires not only our thinking but our emotions\, imagination\, aesthetic and moral intuition\, our bodies: our whole being. Because the arts engage all these dimensions of the human sensibility\, these presentations will use representative works of art as windows into the archetypal character of different eras and individuals\, and into the archetypes themselves. \nWe’ll focus especially on major examples from music and comedy. Music provides perhaps the most profound and direct expression of the archetypal psyche\, reaching back to the earliest origins of human culture\, capable of touching the depths of our souls. Comedy is ancient as well: the Trickster\, whether in the individual psyche\, in a tribe or a royal court\, or commenting on a presidential campaign\, is crucial to the self-regulating and regenerative play of the whole. It is the agent of the unconscious\, rebelling against the conventional rulers\, speaking the truth from below. \nOur approach will be facilitated by the combined lenses of depth psychology and archetypal astrology\, which permit an extraordinarily precise focus on the specific archetypal complexes most prominently at work in a given individual\, work of art\, or cultural era.

SUMMARY:The Soul in Anguish: Depth Psychological Approaches to Suffering
DESCRIPTION:When suffering strikes\, it is helpful to find a framework through which we may understand it. The approach of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) is of limited help\, because there are many normal forms of suffering given the circumstances of a person’s life. Even in the presence of emotional disorder\, people with the same diagnosis suffer in unique ways and require a personalized approach. Traditional religions offer explanations and reasons for suffering\, and we will consider some\, but depth psychology has unique approaches. This lecture will describe some ways to search for meaning in suffering\, and consider it as an experience of liminality and initiation into a new level of consciousness. We will discuss an approach to suffering based on radical acceptance.

SUMMARY:Individuation after 70
DESCRIPTION:Jung said\, “The first half of life is devoted to forming a healthy ego\, the second half is going inward and letting go of it.” Indeed\, he is well known for his theory of adult development and his work on individuation in the second half of life. With this lecture I would like to propose a third phase of life after the first phase (building up a life structure) and second phase (developing a relationship with the inner world). This third phase is especially relevant now as many of us can expect today to live well past the 20th century life expectancy of 65 years old. I have chosen to talk about individuation after age 70 because I want to change this analytical focus on end of life for older adults as a time of preparation for death and instead talk about life and the new possibilities after 70. This phase is not a further continuation of the second half of life but a distinct third ‘half’; a new phase of individuation with its own distinct purpose.

SUMMARY:Courting Experiences of the Subtle Body
DESCRIPTION:Between the concrete world of matter and the world of spirit resides the realm of imagination and the subtle bodies. Any life crisis\, in which the ego learns it does not have the answers\, can open us to this third realm where healing potential and a redirection of life energy reside. And beyond crisis\, consciousness can also learn to court the subtle body as individuation unfolds. Many healing arts tap this realm of being where the body and psyche can rebalance and find healing. The entire cosmos and we humans participate in the subtle body mysteries. Dr. Marie Louise von Franz wrote before her death that growing the subtle body before one dies is of utmost value to the life of the soul. This lecture will explore what this means in the reality of our daily lives\, and will explore images and experiences of the subtle body in alchemy\, dream\, myth\, poetry and waking life. The aim of the presentation is to help us increasingly recognize and open to experience the dialectic with the subtle body realm present in all life. Attention will also be given to various psyche – body healing arts that tap this realm of being.

SUMMARY:Forging our Individual and National Character: The Images of Anselm Kiefer as a Portal into the Nature of Conscience
DESCRIPTION:Jung offered us a compelling theory about the development of conscience. He suggested that conscience relies not only upon communal mores\, but also upon an inner voice\, upon one’s connection to the archetypal realms. He noted that these realms are often difficult to bear but that with analytic fortitude one could turn towards our shadows\, ultimately forging a psychological wholeness. It was his insistent belief that by doing so\, by turning towards the dark stirrings of the unconscious\, we integrate destructive forces that otherwise remain split off\, fueling injustice\, chaos\, and war. Jungian discourse about the emergence of conscience\, along with clinical knowledge about the transformation of narcissism and the healing power of reconciliation processes\, has further developed the idea that we can indeed forge flexible and strong character structures\, both individually and collectively. These resilient structures\, with conscience at their core\, enable us to maintain a creative relationship to the destructive forces that have the potential to cast such large shadows in our lives. These reflections will be woven into a chronological review of the works of Anselm Kiefer that detail how an integrated conscience may emerge alchemically from the patient practice of nourishing a relationship between the opposites\, individually and collectively.

SUMMARY:The Personal Myth in Turbulent Times
DESCRIPTION:In 1913 Jung asked himself this question: “What is my myth?\,” and realized that he could not answer. Can we? First we have to understand what is meant by myth\, and then what the question itself means. Why we have to even ask this question is still another question. What is the cultural context in which we raise these questions\, and how do our personal journeys intersect with the climate of our time are still other questions. This presentation will raise these questions\, offer putative approaches\, and challenge the participant to a more thoughtful engagement.

SUMMARY:Psychic Birth and Rebirth through Analysis
DESCRIPTION:“The neurosis is as a rule a pathological\, one-sided development of the personality\, the imperceptible beginnings of which can be traced back almost indefinitely into the earliest years of childhood. Only a very arbitrary judgment can say where the neurosis actually begins. If we were to relegate the determining cause as far back as the patient’s prenatal life\, thus involving the physical and psychic disposition of the parents at the time of conception and pregnancy—a view that seems not at all improbable in certain cases—such an attitude would be more justifiable than the arbitrary selection of a definite point of neurotic origin in the individual life of the patient” (Jung\, CW 16\, 257-258). \n“The whole life of the individual is nothing but the process of giving birth to himself; indeed\, we should be fully born when we die.” Erich Fromm \nBirth and rebirth are powerful themes that can shape a person’s development within analysis at any age and stage of life. They contain timeless and profound archetypal and developmental meanings that stimulate our development and relationship to the Self. This lecture will focus on ideas regarding birth and rebirth\, and their expression in analysis. The ways that analysis can give birth to the self will come to life through imagery\, session dialogue\, and Dr. Marlo’s inner experience in her work with a patient who experienced psychic birth through analysis.

SUMMARY:Living a Conscious Life
DESCRIPTION:What makes a conscious life? Before becoming conscious\, things just happen. When we challenge habits and patterns that constrain our lives\, we begin to find inner authority; life gains greater choice\, purpose\, and meaning. Even those aspects of experience that we don’t want and would never choose\, can be made meaningful. This lecture explores how to claim inner authority\, navigate change\, loss\, and suffering\, and step into the journey of a lifetime — becoming who you truly are.

SUMMARY:Synchronicity: Nature & Psyche in an Interconnected Universe
DESCRIPTION:What are the academic and scientific roots of Jung’s psychology? How does his psychology hold up today? Jung’s 1912 Fordham lectures on the “Theory of Psychoanalysis” represent Jung’s growing theoretical differentiation from Freud. Soon after delivering these lectures\, Jung resigned his position at the University of Zurich (in 1914) and did not fully resume academic work until 1933. In between these periods Jung underwent the inner experiences that led to the development of The Red Book. \nExamination and comparison of these two periods reveal a tremendous shift in emphasis on what constituted science for Jung. In this lecture we will look at this shift and how Jung’s experiences leading to The Red Book were integral to this change. The scientific tradition associated with the German Romantic movement is key to understanding Jung’s transition. His rich friendship with Wolfgang Pauli\, as well as the rise of the New Sciences of Field Theory\, also influenced Jung’s model of the psyche and his contributions on Synchronicity. We will explore the resurging interest\, re-valuation\, and further understanding of Jung’s contributions in light of some branches of contemporary science\, especially Complexity Theory with its concept of Emergence\, and epigenetics\, the study of non-DNA transmission of hereditary information\, as a form of somatic\, collective memory.

SUMMARY:Jungian Psychology and Analysis As Psycho-Spiritual Event\, As Religious Occasion
DESCRIPTION:“All life is bound to carriers who realize it\, and it is simply inconceivable without them. But every carrier is charged with an individual destiny and destination\, and the experiencing of these alone makes sense of life”.\n– C.G.Jung \nIn recent years there has been a drift in the philosophical envelope of Jungian analysis. It is a significant frame adjustment\, a movement away from seeing analysis as metaphysical craft to experiencing depth therapy as scientific craft\, as empirical enactment. \nThis presentation suggests that the core\, unique aspect of Jungian psychology and analysis in this age of increasing metric profession\, psychology by the numbers\, is its fundamental psycho-spiritual orientation\, its essential anchoring in liminal realms. This multi-media presentation will use film\, art\, and masked clinical example to attempt a contribution toward this rehabilitation of craft\, this re-visioning of Jungian psychology and analytic vocation as religious event\, as sacramental occasion. A brief concluding aside will allude to the growing planetary dimensions of this psychology and craft\, stressing the urgency of reconnecting to the Anima Mundi spirit so wounded at the core of contemporary individual and collective psyche. \nFriday night’s lecture will lay out an overview of the model\, while Saturday’s session will deepen and amplify the material through interactive play with the presented media examples. \n“Whatever spirituality is\, we know from our glimpses along the frontier with the transcendent that it wants to step over into living”.\n– Ann Belford Ulanov

SUMMARY:Emotion: The Moving Force of Experience
DESCRIPTION:There is no experience without emotion. Our daily lives\, our nightly dreams; our interior realities and outer relationships; our fantasies\, myths\, and religions; our arts and sciences; careers and investments – all are informed by emotion. From ancestral times to the here and now of today\, emotions initiate our actions\, infuse our musings\, and fashion the narratives of our lived and unlived lives. It is essential that we know and recognize our universal survival-enhancing emotions\, and the social emotions of our particular surrounds.
